That would be China’s solution to making the air safer to breath for the Olympic athletes in Beijing during the upcoming Olympic games. Never mind the fact that they’ve known since 2001 that they would be host to the games and that they promised the pollution levels would be down by the time of the games. They’ve had well over six years to work on their pollution, but has China done anything?

That would be a big fat NO.

So, on July 20th, 2008 all building construction will come to a halt. No construction, digging, pouring or laying concrete, and no outdoor spray-painting. Also, some 19 businesses have also been told to cut their emissions by 30% as well. So basically, they’re hoping that this 3 week halt of construction will lower the pollution levels in time for the games. A three week period to do what they could have been working on for the past couple of years. Talk about a last ditch effort combined with stupidity.

I’m still at a loss as to why Beijing is hosting the games anyway.

Monk vs Ninja or China’s Great Firewall Attempts to Expand?

Published by Joana under People, World News

The internet is a place where anybody can say and do anything they want, to an extent. This often means you get people acting like total morons even though they would never conduct themselves in such a fashion offline. China seems bound and determined to decide exactly what it’s people will see and hear on the internet and subsequently attempt to control how her people think. So when an anonymous poster on a forum states that an unarmed Ninja beat some Kung-fu monks this naturally gets their panties in a twist! In fact, Such an outrageous comment means that this person must apologize to the affronted monks of Shaolin temple and to the country of China as a whole.

Uh-huh, don’t hold your breath. Personally I think this is just another attempt by China to control what is said about the country by it’s countrymen and outsiders as whole.

Hey China! We know what the Kanji for your country’s name means and its origin. Maybe back in the day you were a powerhouse and you controlled all of Asia, but not anymore. And you certainly have no right to try and control what the rest of the world says and thinks. If someone is spouting nonsense then just walk away and ignore it.

Ah, and in case any Chinese government officials are reading this, let me make one thing perfectly clear. NYAAHHH!!!! Don’t bother asking for an apology from this opinionated blogger, you won’t get it. Besides, you’ve already banned my blogs and sites in your country so what do I care about your petty concerns?

BEIJING - China’s Shaolin Temple, the cradle of Chinese kung fu, is demanding an apology from an Internet user who said its monks had once been beaten in unarmed combat by a Japanese ninja, Chinese media reported on Friday.

Shaolin Temple, in the northern province of Henan, became famous in the West as the training ground for Kwai Chang ”Grasshopper” Caine in the 1970s “Kung Fu” TV series.

Ninjas — professional assassins trained in martial arts — date back to medieval Japan.

“The so-called defeat is purely fabricated, and we demand the Internet user to apologize to the whole nation for the wrongs he or she did,” the Beijing News said, citing a notice announced by a lawyer for the Shaolin monks.

Emotions running high
Relations between Chinese and Japanese are sensitive at the best of times, with emotions still running high over Japan’s invasion and occupation of parts of China in the first half of the 20th Century.

The Internet user, calling themselves “Five Minutes Every Day,” said on an online forum last week that a Japanese ninja came to Shaolin, asked for a fight and many monks failed to beat him, the newspaper said.

“The facts that the monks could not defeat a Japanese ninja showed that they were named as kung fu masters in vain,” the Internet user was quoted as saying in the post.

The Shaolin Temple “strongly condemned the horrible deeds” of the user, the newspaper said.

“It is not only extremely irresponsible behavior with respect to the Shaolin Temple and its monks, but also to the whole martial art and Chinese nation,” it quoted the monks as saying.

China’s Former Food & Drug Chief Executed

BEIJING - China executed a former director of its food and drug agency Tuesday for approving fake medicine in exchange for cash, illustrating how serious Beijing is about tackling product safety, while officials announced steps to safeguard food at next summer’s Olympic Games.

The measures include ensuring athletes’ food is free of substances that could trigger a positive result in tests for banned performance-enhancing drugs. Many of China’s recent food woes have been tied to the purity of ingredients, flavoring, artificial colors and other additives.

During Zheng Xiaoyu’s tenure as head of the State Food and Drug Administration from 1997 to 2006, the agency approved six untested drugs that turned out to be fake, and some drug-makers used falsified documents to apply for approvals, according to state media reports. One antibiotic caused the deaths of at least 10 people.

So apparently the people responsible for the unsafe food and products flowing from China are finally being held responsible, it’s about frigging time. I love this part though:

…illustrating how serious Beijing is about tackling product safety, while officials announced steps to safeguard food at next summer’s Olympic Games.

Um no, I doubt it has anything to do with them being serious about safety and tackling it head on. The Olympic Games is a big event and money maker for the country hosting it. China has to make an effort to appear as though they are concerned with safety and taking measures to ensure the safety of athletes now before the games draw any closer. Otherwise a new venue will definately be insisted upon by the other competing nations.

I seem to recall a recent event that had, at first, only dog owners switching from regular dog food to Premium dog food and then when the situation worsened cat and dog owners alike began to make their own pet food in order to ensure their pet’s safety. Hundreds of pets were affected and an international fuss was caused over this but China did little in way of taking measures then. And that was far from the only incident too.

I’m thinking Zheng Xiaoyu is just one of many who need to be executed.
