It’s always been said that you can find anything at an auction. You’ll find those rare and hard to find items as well as the just plain strange and sometimes grotesque. Here’s one of the later:
Maiden police said the man opened up the smoker and saw what he thought was a piece of driftwood wrapped in paper. When he unwrapped it, he found a human leg, cut off 2 to 3 inches above the knee.
The smoker had been sold at an auction of items left behind at a storage facility, so investigators contacted the mother and son who had rented the space where the smoker was found.
The mother, Peg Steele, explained her son had his leg amputated after a plane crash and kept the leg following the surgery “for religious reasons” she doesn’t know much about.

After an hour of brain wracking I still cannot pin down the religious beliefs that say you must hold on to amputated body parts. But hey, to each their own.
I wonder how traumatized the purchaser was?

School is back in session and the summer is all but finished, so now might be the time to soak in the last remaining warms days by putting in a few more hours outdoors while you can. Likewise, it’s a good idea to soak up some of those End-of-the-Summer savings as well.
OnlineDiscountMart.com has some great deals for you to peruse. From Garden Hose Reels to bird baths and other garden accessories.
Of course, if you’re like me, then you’re rejoicing that Fall is on its merry way, in which case you might want to check out their Halloween decorations. They’re all fairly reasonably priced, and very cute. Like the Witch Parking sign. I actually have the bumper sticker for that, but I’d like to get that little sign and hang it over the carport. If it wasn’t for the fact that people like to vandalize mailboxes around here you can bet I would get the skeleton mailbox cover, despite it being a little out of my price range.

Horror enthusiasts, now might be the time to rip open those savings accounts, scrounge around in the sofa seats, and pull out all of the secret caches. Bran Castle, which once housed the warload Prince Vlad the Impaler who was the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Dracula in Romania is being put up on the market by Romania’s former royal family. This piece of history and culture could be yours for a paltry $135 million:
BUCHAREST, Romania - Romania’s former royal family put “Dracula’s Castle” in Transylvania up for sale Monday, hoping to secure a buyer who will respect “the property and its history,” a U.S.-based investment company said.
The Bran Castle, perched on a cliff near Brasov in mountainous central Romania, is a top tourist attraction because of its ties to Prince Vlad the Impaler, the warlord whose cruelty inspired Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel, “Dracula.”
Legend has it that Vlad, who earned his nickname because of the way he tortured his enemies, spent one night in the 1400s at the castle.

Now that is what I would call investment property. If you could afford it would you buy Bran Castle? What would you do with it, keep it open for the public or for private rental, maybe even just your own personal use?
