In 1964 a riot broke out in the 7,000+ crowd that had filled the Empress Ballroom in Blackpool, England after a member spat at the Rolling Stones guitarist Brian Jones. Clearly this was not the band’s fault, they can hardly be held for the reactions of fans (and possibly non-fans) in an audience. But after the incident, the council of Blackpool enacted a ban on the Rolling Stones which forbade them from playing in Blackpool again. That ban has no been lifted:
After being banned for almost half-century from the English seaside resort, the Rolling Stones are free to perform there again, the local council said on Thursday. (source)
Please note, Peter Callow, the Blackpool council leader went on to say that, if the Rolling Stones would be willing to forgive them, they would forgive them. In other words, the ban is officially lifted Rolling Stones, but we want an apology and forgiveness from you first. Then we’ll officially give you one.
Never mind that the insult was dealt to the Stones first, and not Blackpool.
Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, Ronnie Wood - Tell them that their act of foolishness is forgiven, that incident is behind you now and then just continue on as you have been. Who needs Blackpool? Pft!

Oh I bet the title of this entry really caught your attention didn’t it? Sorry to say, this entry isn’t about having sex and music together, well maybe in way it is. IndieMV - Musical Intercourse, happens to be the catchphrase that they coined.
To the point, IndieMV.com is a social networking site that is place for independent musicians to get their sound out there and known. It also aims to provide a social networking service for not just the musicians, but the fans. Some of the features that IndieMV has to offer are video blogging, web-cam messaging, photo sharing, and of course, access to hundreds of music videos and interviews from independent artists. I would strongly recommend that any person who calls them self an “indie music fan” check this site out. Even if you’re more into mainstream music, this might be a good place to connect with other music fans and to hear some new bands.
On one hand this place might not seem very different from other social networking sites that allow you to video blog or upload your own videos, but here is one major difference I saw that (at least for the bands) will perk some interest. IndieMV wants to help independent artists get out there and get known and as a result they regularly provide opportunities for bands on IndieMV to gain the exposure they need by offering bands a range of opportunities to perform in front of new and different audiences. Right now IndieMV is holding one such opportunity which will send a band to Montreal, Canada. The band lucky band will not only receive roundtrip airfare and two nights accomodation, but the opportunity to perform on stage at the Unite Against AIDS concert.

The Iraq government has failed time and time again to hit the benchmarks that have been set for it so now President Bush is forced to call in the big guns.
July 17, 2007 - Increasingly frustrated by the Iraqi government’s failure to meet a series of defined benchmarks, President George W. Bush today proposed sending a group of giant robots known as the Transformers™ to Iraq.
When questioned about his decision, President Bush had the following to say:
“I’d like to see what would happen if Al Qaeda tried to attack one of our tanks, and instead the tank got up on its legs and turned out to be a robot and started shooting at them,” Mr. Bush said. “That would be so cool.”

Entertainment Tonight reported on its Web site Monday that the FBI and LAPD were investigating “legitimate” leads into a contract hit on the life of Kevin Federline. According to ETonline.com, multiple sources claim the FBI has attempted to contact Federline, Britney Spears’ ex-husband, to inform him of the hit.
FBI sources told ET that contacting someone whose life has been threatened is standard operating procedure for the bureau.
When contacted by ET, the FBI said they can neither confirm nor deny an investigation.
Meanwhile, Web site TMZ.com reports the LAPD closed an investigation into a threat on Federline’s life nearly two months ago because of insufficient evidence.

I’m a little surprised this man has a hit out on him, after all, he hardly seems important enough to warrant that sort of attention. I’m sure several people out there are wondering how much of this is real and how much of it is a publicity stunt.
Of course it could be that some music fans have had enough of the garbage he spins and calls “music” and thought to take out the source of the disturbance. While I can understand their stance I think they’re going about it all wrong. Remember, many musicians who were mediocre, at best, in life, rocketed to international fame after their deaths. Especially if the death was a horrible accident or brutal murder. If that happens we’ll be listening to his crud 24/7 for a good couple of months after his demise and he’ll probably get a movie made for him too.
So who ever put the hit out, do all of our eyes and ears a favor and recall it please.
