"That would be China’s solution to making the air safer to breath for the Olympic athletes in Beijing during the upcoming Olympic games."

The funny thing is everyone seems to forget that their are people that live in this city too! The Chinese government see it like so:

"We know the airs really bad and the general population of Beijing can't breathe outside without coughing up a bloodclot BUT we've got the olympics and to make it look like we're making an effort we'll say we are doing something to combat it" :-)

I read an article the other day saying that the air level was 4 times worse than "normal"

Hope they bring masks...

Wow, that's ridiculous. I'm also not sure why the IOC chose Beijing to host the Olympics, as China would be the last place to host an event that champions human equality.

Well, actually, I'm pretty sure I know why the IOC chose China. It all comes down to what makes the world go 'round: Money, money, money...

Jenn,

I know, right? They could have been using this time to really clean up their act, literally, and not just for the games either. Instead they're doing everything at the last minute in a futile effort, in my opinion. I mean really, they expect these businesses to cut down their emissions by 30% in what little time is left? And they honestly think that a three-week no building ban will lift that perpetual haze of smog?

Perhaps the pollution has addled their brains?

And I thought I was the world's worst procrastinator! I don't feel so bad anymore.

It would have made more sense to use those 6 years to try to find a solution to the problem, not just a quick fix!
