He announced that he wanted to become the boyfriend of one particular woman but would remain chaste. His love for her has never been questioned, and he has supported her and her child financially, but the ruling has come down and the Rev. Sante Sguotti has been removed from his office.
The Rev. Sante Sguotti can no longer work as pastor in his Monterosso parish and cannot hear confessions from the faithful, the diocese of Padua said in a statement. Sguotti remains a priest and can celebrate Mass, however.
Sguotti made headlines in August when he went on national television to say he was in love with a woman and wanted to be her boyfriend publicly while remaining chaste.
Now, from a historical point of view, it wasn’t until relatively [in the history of Christianity] that the clergy were forbidden from being married and had to remain chaste. Read the bible ladies and gentlemen, no where does it say that a priest has to be celibate and unmarried in order to lead a congregation. It wasn’t until one pope came forward and changed this that this went into effect. The fact that they do allow some of priests to marry but not all based on region is rather absurd.

So now that he has been downgraded can he remain a priest and not be chaste? Can he finally be with his lady? Does she even want him to be her bf? Religion can be wack.
From the sound of it they both want to be together. But now that he’s essentially lost his job he can date and marry her and [I’m assuming] that chastity no longer matters.
How sad for this priest. Although he loved this woman, he attempted to “follow the rules” of his religion and he STILL lost his job. I hope now he feels free to really be with this woman; maybe marry her if he chooses.
I would think that with the shortage of priests, the diocese would have thought twice about letting this one go.
i don’t get this…
the bible doesn’t say anything about a priest about not loving someone on his/her opposite sex… it doesn’t even say that a priest can’t marry.
in fact, church heads, are human beings too. they need to love and to be loved right?
At least he is honest on his feelings and told the truth to public. He really loves the woman, because he knows what will be his consequences are yet he is not afraid of it. I admire the priest for being true to himself, loving the woman in spite of having a child and sacrificing for the sake of love. I think this was the “TRUE LOVE” means.
