GLENDALE, Calif. — For Nicole Richie, four days in jail will be an intermission in her glamorous lifestyle: No miniskirts, no stiletto heels and no time off for good behavior. House arrest is not an option.

For her wrong-way freeway trek in a Mercedes-Benz, Richie was slapped Friday with a sentence of nearly four days in jail, a fine of $2,048 and orders to attend drug and alcohol rehab.

It’s a known fact that these pampered Hollywood princesses’ mechanics and what not are spending a small fortune in Automotive detailing supplies and repairs considering the known (and most definately unknown) escapades they get into and yet they just getting slapped on the wrist for it. Why? I mean really, if I or you were to pull stunts like this would we be getting four days in jail and a small fine? Oh granted to us that fine isn’t too small, but for these airheads it’s a drop in the bucket. Where is the punishment?!

Life Sentenced Turned Death Sentence

Published by Joana under Crime, Entertainment, People

Somehow I find it hard to drudge up much sympathy for this ‘vicitm’

SAN FRANCISCO — The man convicted of stalking and killing actress Rebecca Schaeffer in 1989 was stabbed repeatedly by another inmate in the prison where he is serving a life sentence, corrections officials said.

Robert John Bardo, 37, suffered 11 stab and puncture wounds Friday at Mule Creek State Prison in Amador County, authorities said. He was treated at University of California, Davis, Medical Center and returned to the prison, officials said.

“We have a number of high-notoriety cases, so we cannot jump to the conclusion as to whether his notoriety was a factor in the attack,” said prison Sgt. Chris Weathersbee.

The slaying of Schaeffer, a former teenage model who co-starred in the 1980s sitcom “My Sister Sam,” helped prompt anti-stalking laws. She was shot when she answered the door of her home in Los Angeles.

The upside of this is that there is one less person sitting around behind bars in comfort due to tax payers’ money. To be honest, given the fact that he was a crazed stalker I’m amazed he didn’t get a death sentence and instead received life. Imagine a life behind bars? Well, he was spared the indignity of using incontinence products while locked up yes?

The way I see it, Rebecca Schaeffer’s killer was finally punished and justice was served.

Free Educational Resource

Published by Joana under Buzz, School & Education, Science

Textbooks are not cheap and in a time when schools just aren’t getting the funding they need, every penny counts. Free Biology Book is, you guessed it, a free biology textbook that is available online. The book strives to explain and teach all biology topics in over 1800 “question and answer” scenarios. I like the idea of having textbook available online free of charge and accessible to all students, but I can’t help but wonder if some of the answers and explanations are a bit too condensed for some students. Regardless, this remains a resource that all students should bookmark and return to for assistance in their academic careers.

Official Statement:

Authors Publish Innovative Biology Textbook Online and For Free

Biology teachers and students worldwide can now use a complete and real (ISBN assigned) Biology textbook published online by the authors. All of the 636 pages of the book is online.

The “Free Biology Book” (www.freebiologybook.com) is a full Biology textbook encompassing all Biology subjects for secondary education: Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Microbiology, Zoology, Physiology, Embryology, Botanics, Genetics, Evolution, Ecology and Diseases. Each of such Biology subjects is divided in several and well-organized chapters.

The main attraction of the online book is the way the content is exposed, each chapter made of a logical sequence of questions and answers. From the beginning to the end of the Q&A sequence, the text goes from introductory issues to deeper explanation of the chapter topic. It is then very easy to learn Biology reading the “Free Biology Book” (www.freebiologybook.com) since the knowledge is built question by question in small blocks of content.

Another innovation of the project is that it does not directly show illustrations. Instead, for each chapter the reader is suggested to click on links that open Google Images pages that show lots of pictures about what is being studied.

The intention of the authors, both are medical doctors, that published their real book online and for free is to allow students and teachers throughout the world to have access to a complete online Biology book. Students can use it at home or school and teachers can even take it as guideline to build their Biology courses.

The Hammer Is Coming Down

In reference Falcons’ Michael Vick’s impending criminal proceedings in regards to his participation in and training of dogs for dog fights, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell had this to say:

“While it is for the criminal justice system to determine your guilt or innocence, it is my responsibility as commissioner of the National Football League to determine whether your conduct, even if not criminal, nonetheless violated league policies, including the personal conduct policy,” Goodell said….[source]

Well said. Truth be told, I rarely agree with PETA because I’ve found them to be, for the most part, extremists of the worst sort. Yet on this I feel they have the measure of the situation. Since Monday PETA members and animal lovers have been picketing outside of the Falcons practice field calling for the suspension of Michael Vick.

It’s good to see that the NFL is taking this matter seriously, though why they have to even launch an investigation to determine if this compromises their integrity is truly beyond me. Fact is, it does and he needs to be let go.

Save Yourself Some Money Online

Published by Joana under Buzz, Money, Shopping

I doubt that there is a single person out there who truly enjoys shelling out a bucket load of money for a single item. Oh certainly we enjoy the thought of being able to fling money around senselessly but we don’t actually enjoy parting with it. That said, shouldn’t a website like KeepCash.com be added to your bookmarks? I think so.

KeepCash.com has numerous coupons for a variety of stores to choose from as well. If you’re in the market for a new computer than why not try taking a look at their available coupons for Dell and HP. Not in the market for a computer? You can pick up on some great deals from other stores as well. And yes, they even have Apple coupons available as well, for all those Apple crazy people out there.
